As home to one of the nation’s largest universities, College Station has a substantial transient population. Thousands of people – including international students – call our community home for a few short years, then move on.
We’re also located along State Highway 6, which means travelers frequently stop here for gas, food, or to visit friends and family. Sometimes they even stop for emergencies such as the early birth of a child.
Married students frequently give birth in College Station, too, sometimes just before they return to their home town or country. Distracted by all the hassles of moving, they sometimes forget to obtain their newborn’s birth certificate.
In the past, that’s created a problem because they had to get the certificate in person from the City Secretary’s Office. That’s not easy to do when you’ve returned to China or India.
Thankfully, those days are over.
The City of College Station’s Vital Records Office has partnered with VitalChek Network to offer quick and secure online ordering of birth and death certificates starting Wednesday. We join cities and counties such as Austin, Arlington, San Antonio, Tarrant County, and Denton County in offering this essential service.
We only accept orders for birth and death records filed in College Station. Online orders received before 2 p.m. are processed that day. UPS overnight orders also are shipped the day they are processed, but we mail orders with regular certified return receipt postage the next business day.
